Soldering with Tyn

Okay, so it's been a week since I took Tyn's soldering class at Zinnia. I had to wait because the enormous blister I got after I touched the hot end of the soldering thing. The truth is that the blister wasn't that bad. I deserve it for being impatient. I wanted to have a reason for not blogging about the class earlier in the week.

Anyway... Tyn taught the soldering class last Sunday 6/23 at Zinnia. It was pretty cool. She let me sit-in, watch and make while I kept an eye out for customers. I have never tried soldering because I always thought that it would be way too complicated and have toooooo many rules. I say rules you probably say, instructions. Tyn made it easy to follow. Granted, I have the attention span of a fly so perhaps she had to repeat things one or twenty times. The process was fairly easy to follow. The tools have funny names that I'll never remember... like that white bar that looks like a bar of Dove soap she uses to clean the hot wand (blister maker)that melts the metal stuff. I am not worried about the names of the tools because Tyn is super and she will tell me or I can just go the stained glass store in Eagle Rock and point at the tools.

Unfortunately, we did not have a camera to photograph the treasures that the other 2 students and I made. Absolutely beautiful. I was able to make 4 pieces and would have made more if I paided attention and perhaps, not whined quite so much. I did after all take about 85% of the class time looking for the perfect image to use. Hey, I'm trying to loosen up... I'm a work in progress.

If you have ever been curious about soldering I recommend Tyn's class.

Ciao for now. Suki

Carries's Tiara

A new customer came in the store the other day (thanks Alicia for the good words to a fellow student you met at Sally Jean's Studio). She said she was looking for something to put her new Tiara on... I had the perfect thing. So she shared with me her masterpieces.
Thanks Carrie (and Alicia)

PS: Alicia brought in her tiara for "show and tell" at the store, Joe and I were in awe! She let me take a picture with it on and my camera some how deleted it ( I was so bummed). She said she had such a great time at Sally Jeans weekend retreat at her studio, both her and Carrie had so many wonderful things to say about their experiences.

Pass the Mustard!

You just know it's going to be a great day...when your driving down the street, and you see a huge hot dog on a bun!  How fun is this? Spotted parked in South Pasadena....nobody around it....no driver or passengers....just an empty hot dog. I think it's a sign, but I could be wrong!

....and FUN was had by all !

The "Embellished Canvas" class turned out great thanks to wonderfully artistic students...(and one who misbehaved)....you know who you are!
Take a look at these wonderful creations. Everyone brought family photo's to use, and after the canvas is painted, we added images, and then embellished them with 3-D items. Look at how different every one is from the others.

VARITY is the spice of life!!!!!!

Thanks to all who took the class, and for inspiring your teacher! Till next time!

Zinnia's Online Store

It is June 1st and after many weeks of teaching myself "how to construct a shopping cart" on Go Daddy, it is finally "almost" finished. At least I think it is finished enough. Zinnia now has an online store. It is a small selection of what is in the actual "store" but it is some of our favorite things. A few things that are only available in the store and a few things the artist at Zinnia can't create without. I still have a few things to work out, like hooking up the credit card processing and shipping information but, I just wanted to make the jump. So please take a visit and if you have any ideas or comments please feel free to let me know.
Thanks, Tam
